Pros and Cons of Streaming Services

With the rise of streaming services in recent years and record breaking subscriptions numbers it has changed the way we consume Movies and TV, in some ways these services have had a positive effect on the industry but at the same time they may also be damaging it. The ability to watch movies and television shows practically anywhere you want whether it be on a smartphone ,IPad or laptop is something that would have never been thought possible but in the last decade has become a reality and has made the content more accessible than ever before. The biggest negative that streaming services has had on the industry is that it has resulted in less people going to the cinemas which in turn has had a major impact on how financially successful smaller movies are because it is more convenient to watch a movie from the comfort of your home rather than to go out and take the time to watch something in the theatre which has had an impact on the amount of original content being produced by big studios because they don’t want to take a risk on something that isn’t financially viable but at the same time streaming services are taking the time and effort to invest their resources into making independent shows and movies and are giving the creators more creative control over their project which they most likely won’t get from a bigger studio. With streaming services you definitely get more value for money than if you were to go to the cinema, the sheer amount of content available to us on these streaming service guarantees that there is bound to be something to suit everyone’s interests whereas it’s up to the cinema to decide what movies they want to play on their screens so there may not always be something out for everyone, while streaming services may provide us with the most content where they are lacking is inthe experience I think that all movies are made with the intention of being seen on the big screen as it offers the best possible picture and sound quality and the atmosphere of an excited crowd on opening night giving the viewer a truly immersive experience one that can’t be achieved in the same way anywhere else and while both mediums have their merits and problems it will certainly be interesting for us to see how they change and improve over the coming years.
